The Republic of Liberia is a country on the West African coast. It has a population of around 5 million. In 2018 it was officially recognised as the poorest country in the world according to the World International Poverty Indexes and Standards.
The country has been through two civil wars from 1989 -2003, leaving a devastating impact on its people and infrastructure. Approximately 250,000 of the adult population were killed during these wars. In recent times the country suffered from the Ebola Epidemic which resulted in the death of over 20,000 people, mainly adults.
Latest figures show Liberia has the highest population of orphans in the world, with over 150,000. 65% of it’s population is under the age of 30.
The country faces many challenges and is in need of urgent assistance.
By supporting Al-Fikr you will be helping to feed many of the orphans and also assisting in longer term poverty alleviation programmes.
