Food insecurity is a global issue affecting millions of people around the world. The number of people living with hunger has worsened due to the changing climate, entrenched conflicts and economic slowdowns. Al-Fikr is working across some of the worlds poorest countries to help alleviate hunger and poverty through its various programs working closely with NGO’s and many affiliated organisations.
We currently work in many locations within Pakistan, overseeing a number of projects including the installation of water pumps/wells, improving education facilities, providing medical camps and distribution of food packages. Over a quarter of the country’s population lives below the poverty line, making our work even more vital.
On 31st January 2021, we launched a soup kitchen in Pakpattan in the province of Punjab about 170 km from the city of Lahore. We currently open every other day providing meals for between 200-225 people. Our aim is to open daily providing meals for up to 300 people; this will only be possible with your support.
Working with local people we have identified widows, orphans, disabled and elderly individuals who are given priority for the meal program.
The kitchen is fitted out to enable a large scale operation and has facilities to store up to 3 months of food supplies.
The current cost to run the kitchen is approximately £600 per month, this figure will increase significantly when opened daily.
